Amos

Amos family resided in Musrara between 1951-1967. The parents, Moshe Amos and Mazal Buzaglo, met in Casablanca, Morocco and immigrated to Israel in 1948 after a grueling journey. In the beginning they lived in a tent in Zarnoga transit camp, near Rehovot, but they insisted on moving to Jerusalem. At first they were relocated to Ein Karem, and from there, in 1951, to Musrara. They lived on Ha'Ayin Chet St., in front of Elisha St.. Their older children, Shimon (Simo) and Meir were born outside Musrara and the younger children, Varda, Ruthi, Elisheva, Michal and Haim were born in the neighborhood. In 1967 the family moved from Musrara to the nearby Mandelbaum Gate, but remained in the same schools, same community club and same friends.
In a joint interview, the sisters Varda and Ruthi (later on Michal, their sister, joins), tell happy and painful childhood stories, also about independent and opinionated parents who fought to realize their professional and educational abilities, for them and for their children, in spite of discrimination and hardships.
